Venus Williams' wait for a win on the WTA Tour rolls on as she fell to a 6-3 6-7 (4-7) 6-1 loss to Diane Parry at the Indian Wells Open.

Williams made her return to the Tour last year, and won her first game back, at the Washington Open.

However, the seven-time major champion has lost her last eight matches after going down to Parry.

Williams earned a wildcard entry at Indian Wells, where she first played 30 years ago, in 1996, at the age of 15.

"Of course, losing isn't fun, but it's great to play in front of a home crowd," Williams said.

"They were behind me the whole way, and that was really fun for that.

"I have amazing fans that believe in me and it's fun to play for them, or even in practice when they come out. It's very thrilling. Yeah, today was a tough one, but that's sport and that's life, and I'll take what I need from it."

Williams has now made 110 main-draw appearances at a Tier 1/WTA 1000 event, which equals Francesca Schiavone for the joint-sixth most on the all-time list since the format's introduction in 1990.

She is the second-oldest player to feature at such a tournament, with only Martina Navratilova doing so at an older age (47 when she played in Charleston in 2004).
