Savea says 'pressure is a privilege' after All Blacks retain Bledisloe Cup

New Zealand ensured their hold on the Bledisloe Cup extended to 23 years, after the All Blacks eventually got the better of Australia.

Ardie Savea insists "pressure is a privilege" for New Zealand, after they retained the Bledisloe Cup with victory over Australia.

The All Blacks leapfrogged the Wallabies to the top of the Rugby Championship table following a hard-earned 33-24 win at Eden Park.

Scott Robertson's side raced into a 20-3 lead thanks to tries from Caleb Clarke, Leroy Carter and Cam Roigard, though that was reduced to just three points as Billy Pollard and Harry Potter went over for Australia.

The visitors further reduced the deficit to 26-24 heading into the final 10 minutes, but Roigard's second try extended the hosts' hold on the Bledisloe Cup to 23 years.

New Zealand bounced back from their record 43-10 defeat against South Africa last weekend, and Savea saluted his team-mates' response.

"I think the pressure is a privilege," the skipper said. "We're All Blacks, and we have the honour and opportunity to put this jersey on and play in front of our team and our nation. That's the responsibility we have. You embrace it.

"We got off to a good start. We know the Aussies; they never give up, and they keep coming and coming. It's a testament to them. But [I am] also proud of our boys for sticking in."

Australia's 24-year winless streak in New Zealand continues, while you must go back to 1986 for the last time they won at Eden Park.

Nevertheless, captain Harry Wilson saluted the togetherness of the Wallabies, and he feels that will be important as they look to avenge this defeat in next week's return fixture.

"It's obviously disappointing to miss out on the Bledisloe for another year, but credit to New Zealand, they outplayed us tonight," he said.

"We gave ourselves an opportunity there. We're definitely on the right path, but we just can't keep giving teams head starts. The Rugby Championship is still alive, so there's a lot for us to play for next week.

"We're a really close unit. I don't think I've ever been a part of a team this close, and I think you see it out there on the field."
