Beirne red card costs Ireland in All Blacks defeat, South Africa and Scotland win big

In Saturday's Autumn internationals, New Zealand fought back to defeat Ireland, while South Africa and Scotland recorded massive wins.

New Zealand overcame Ireland 26-13 in the first of their Autumn internationals in Chicago, with Tadhg Beirne receiving a red card just three minutes in.

Beirne was sent off for a high tackle on Beauden Barrett, which was initially given as a yellow card before being upgraded to a 20-minute red card after a bunker review, though Ireland's initial response was good.

They went 10-0 up, helped by a Tadhg Furlong try, though Ardie Savea finished in the corner to get the All Blacks back within three points by half-time.

Jack Crowley missed one penalty then knocked over another to pull Ireland six ahead, but a penalty awarded for Garry Ringrose's high tackle on Barrett turned the momentum.

Tamaiti Williams went over to put New Zealand ahead for the first time, then Wallace Sititi capped a flowing move to extend their advantage.

There was still time for the All Blacks to add another score with three minutes left, with Cameron Roigard crossing to finish off a deserved win for Scott Robertson's team, who travel to Edinburgh to face Scotland next Saturday.

Elsewhere, world champions South Africa crushed Japan by a 61-7 scoreline, with Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu and Kurt-Lee Arendse scoring two tries apiece.

Captain Siya Kolisi, Wilco Louw, Andre Esterhuizen and Jesse Kriel also went over for the Springboks, who led 26-0 by half-time at Wembley Stadium and never looked back.

Amateur Yoshitaka Yazaki got Japan's only try, and South Africa will expect a far tougher challenge against France in Paris next weekend.

But that was not the most one-sided victory of the day, as Scotland warmed up for their meeting with the All Blacks by crushing the United States 85-0 at Murrayfield.

That represented their biggest-ever victory in over a century playing at the venue, with Darcy Graham and Jamie Dobie both scoring hat-tricks.

There were also two tries for Duhan Van der Merwe on his 50th cap, while Dylan Richardson, Kyle Rowe, Stafford McDowall, George Horne, and Ollie Smith also got on the scoresheet.
