Woods to miss Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass
Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy headline a strong field at The Players Championship, but Tiger Woods will not be among the field.
The PGA Tour has confirmed that Tiger Woods won't return to action at The Players Championship after he was not named in the final field for next week's event at TPC Sawgrass.
Woods had suggested he would not play at the tournament earlier this week when he said his "heart is really not into practising right now".
The former world number one has missed each of the last four editions due to injury, with Woods not featuring in an official event since missing the cut at The Open last July.
Woods was due to make his latest comeback at The Genesis Invitational last month, only to withdraw from the event after his mother's passing the previous week.
Speaking after Tuesday's TGL competition, the 49-year-old cited the death of his mother last month and his commitments with the PGA Tour policy board as he said he was not ready to compete in the near future.
"This is the third time I've touched a club since my mom passed away, so I haven't really gotten into it," Woods said in comments reported by Sports Illustrated.
"My heart is really not into practising right now. I've had so many other things to do with the Tour and trying to do other things.
"Once I start probably feeling a little bit better and start getting into it, I'll start looking at the schedule."
I planned to tee it up this week, but I’m just not ready. I did my best to prepare, knowing it’s what my Mom would have wanted, but I’m still processing her loss.

Thanks to everyone who has reached out. I hope to be at Torrey later in the week and appreciate the continued… pic.twitter.com/HP45Tla3QQ
The Players Championship will take place at the PGA's base in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida at TPC Sawgrass next week.
It is the final year in which Woods is exempt from the competition on the back of his win at the 2019 Masters.
Two-time defending champion Scottie Scheffler is looking to become the first player to win the title three times since Jack Nicklaus in 1978.
