USA have 'tried too hard' to foster Ryder Cup camaraderie, claims Rose
Ahead of the 45th Ryder Cup, Justin Rose has argued that Keegan Bradley's United States team are trying too hard to forge friendships.
Justin Rose believes the United States' Ryder Cup team have "tried too hard" to foster camaraderie ahead of the tournament, claiming the bonds between Europe's players are more organic.
The 45th edition of the Ryder Cup will take place between September 26 and 28 at Bethpage, New York, with Europe targeting a first away win since their memorable triumph in 2012 at Medinah.
Rose will make his seventh appearance for the Ryder Cup holders, having qualified automatically for Luke Donald's team.
And the 45-year-old, who boasts a 14-9-3 record in his previous Ryder Cup matches, thinks the bond between Europe's players comes naturally, unlike in the United States' ranks.
"I think the US team have definitely bonded a lot more in recent years, and I think that they do have pockets of good friendships," Rose said.
"But I think with the Americans... they think being a great team is about being best mates. I really don't think that's what being a great team is.
"Being a great team is having a really good theme and having an identity that has come from players before you, and you all buy into that vision.
"You don't have to have the greatest time in the world to do that. Although, inevitably, we do have a great time doing that.
"I think America have tried too hard to become a team, whereas Europe is a bit more natural and organic, and I think it comes from deeper roots in a way."
