U.S. Open: Scott hoping for championship push with 'old-man-par golf'
The U.S. Open field remains wide open and Adam Scott hopes he can capitalise over the weekend at Oakmont.
Adam Scott hopes his "old-man-par golf" can aid a U.S. Open charge when he takes to Saturday's third round just three shots back from leader Sam Burns.
The 52-year-old has just one major crown to his name, at The Masters in 2013, but is in with a chance at Oakmont after back-to-back 70s in the first two rounds.
Scott is the only player in the field at par or better that boasts a major success, with J.J. Spaun one behind Burns and Viktor Hovland a further shot back in third after Friday's action.
"I feel like this is what I've been working towards," Scott said. "I was kind of in the mix late at the PGA, and now putting myself in this one for the weekend.
"It's a long way to go, but I feel like my game is in good enough shape to do this."
The most recent of his 14 career PGA Tour titles came in 2020 at Riviera, while he finished tied third at the PGA Championship in 2018.
"Of course I'd like to win lots more tournaments, any of them, to be perfectly honest. I'd like to win something," Scott said.
"I've put together a nice career, but I think another major more would really go a long way in fulfilling my own self, when it's all said and done.
"This is all I'm really playing for are these big events. There's probably eight of them off the top of my mind a year that I really want to win."
Round 2 will resume at 7:30 a.m. Saturday morning following today’s suspension due to weather.⁰⁰Round 3 will be played in groups of two off of No. 1. Tee times will run from approximately 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Scott has appeared in 96 consecutive majors since the 2001 Open, the second-longest run of major appearances after the record 146 by Jack Nicklaus from 1962 to 1998.
"Maybe it does," he said, suggesting his consistency goes under the radar. "But I'd be pretty proud of winning this thing on the weekend. That's really what I'm here to do.
"It's just hard out there. It's hard to keep it going when guys have got on a run. It seems like they've come back a bit."
American Ben Griffin shares fourth place with Scott after a one-over 71 in round two, while Thriston Lawrence and Victor Perez are level in sixth on one over for the tournament.
