Tiger Woods undergoes back surgery to replace damaged disc
Fifteen-time major champion Tiger Woods has confirmed that he underwent back surgery on Friday in order to replace a damaged disc.
Tiger Woods has undergone a seventh back operation, this time to replace a damaged disc in his lower back that had been causing him pain and restricting movement.
In a statement shared on social media Saturday, Woods confirmed the procedure took place in New York, calling it the right move for his long-term health and ongoing back problems.
The 49-year-old did not specify when he plans to return to competition, leaving uncertainty about his participation in December’s Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas or the PNC Championship alongside his son Charlie.
Woods has not played since finishing runner-up in last year’s PNC Championship. This marks his second surgery of 2025, following an Achilles tendon repair in March, and his second back operation in just over a year.
In the statement, Woods said: "The scans determined that I had a collapsed disc in L4/5, disc fragments and a compromised spinal canal.
"I opted to have my disc replaced yesterday, and I already know I made a good decision for my health and my back."

Woods' long battle with injuries began with his first back surgery in 2014, ultimately leading to a spinal fusion in 2017. Remarkably, he went on to win the 2018 Tour Championship and claim his 15th major title at the 2019 Masters.
His career was further derailed by a 2021 car accident that severely injured his right leg and ankle — an ordeal he said nearly resulted in amputation.
Since that crash, Woods has appeared in only 15 events over four years, including multiple outings at the PNC Championship, where players are allowed to use golf carts.
