Bethpage Black Course will serve up a "raucous" atmosphere that Team Europe will do well to navigate at the Ryder Cup, so says Ian Poulter.

Europe head to New York as defending champions, having won 16½-11½ in Rome two years ago.

However, Europe have not managed to win on American soil since 2012, when they triumphed 14½-13 ½ in Illinois.

That was the famous "Miracle at Medinah", with Poulter part of the European team on that occasion.

Poulter has featured in seven Ryder Cups overall, winning five times, and he expects Europe to find matters tough in September.

"Away, Ryder Cups are notoriously difficult," Poulter told Sky Sports.

"It's the same when they come to our home soil too. Home advantage is a big factor.

"[Team Europe captain] Luke [Donald] has got a venue in Bethpage Black that is going to be very loud, very raucous.

"We've had numerous events at that location in the past, so they certainly know what they are going to be in for.

"The European team already looks strong on paper, and Luke will be happy with the current form of his players.

"The team looks very similar to what it did last time, so I wouldn't expect too many changes. Hopefully, Team Europe can go on US soil and grab that trophy back."
