PGA Championship: Rahm finding his groove ahead of final round
Jon Rahm is confident he can put up a fight on the final day of the PGA Championship after a fine third-round display at Quail Hollow.
Jon Rahm believed he was finding his groove at the PGA Championship after his superb third-round display had him in contention heading into the final day.
Rahm carded a superb 67 to surge up a crowded leaderboard at Quail Hollow, with the former US Open and Masters champion making light work of the windy conditions.
The Spaniard finished his round at six under, three shots adrift of Scottie Scheffler, who surged into the lead towards the end of his third round.
"Yeah, especially I started making birdies and getting closer. That birdie on 14, with an eagle, I would have gotten closer quicker," Rahm said of his impressive back-nine display.
"But when I made the putt on 15, I had the Green Mile to go, knowing that if I finish at even par, I'm going to be in good position going into tomorrow.
"Maybe not the whole back nine because before the birdie on 10, I was, what, 4-under. So, at that point, I was still four back. There's a lot of golf to play.
"Not really thinking about it. Maybe not the whole back nine, but the last four holes for sure.
"Yeah, it feels great. You get a little bit of a taste of what tomorrow may be like, obviously, tomorrow being a little more intensified.
"It was a lot of fun to be there again, and it was a lot of fun to play those holes great and finish strong."

Alex Noren finished with a final flourish to cap a stunning third-round display on Saturday, but he was quickly pursued by Scheffler for the clubhouse lead.
Noren finished his round with four birdies in his final five holes, including the 17th and 18th, the most difficult holes, shooting a 66 to finish at eight under.
The Swede drained seven birdies that catapulted him to the top of the leaderboard, but remained at the summit for merely five minutes as Scheffler took control.
Scheffler replied to a bogey on the 13th with a sensational drive on the following hole to within three feet of the pin, tapping in for an eagle and went nine under in the closing stages.
Inclement weather caused an almost three-and-a-half-hour delay to the third round, which, as a result, led to a decision to send players off in groups of three from split tees.
World number one Scheffler bogeyed his first hole but made a move with three birdies over a four-hole stretch before his eagle putt on the 14th hole.
Before last week, 42-year-old Alex Noren had been sidelined with injury for 31 weeks.

At six under par, Rahm was two shots behind Bryson DeChambeau after the US Open champion picked up shots on the 14th and 15th, though the American struggled late on.
Sitting at eight under, DeChambeau dropped three shots at the 16th and 17th, but scrambled back on the final hole of his round to finish at five under.
Overnight leader Vegas made a poor start after two bogies, but had a glorious chance to reclaim the outright lead after driving the par-four eighth hole.
However, the Venezuelan was unable to cash in after he three-putted from 26 feet and was two shots off the lead.
Davis Riley carded a round of 67 to move up to seven under, while Masters champion Rory McIlroy found himself way off the pace on two over through 15.
