Colsaerts 'very disappointed' over Ryder Cup vice-captaincy snub

The Ryder Cup tees off on September 26, and Team Europe captain Luke Donald has been busy naming his deputies, making one notable omission.

Nicolas Colsaerts revealed he was left "very disappointed" at not being kept on as a vice-captain for Team Europe in the upcoming Ryder Cup, but insists he maintains his support for Luke Donald and the team.

Donald has stuck with four of his five deputies from Europe's 2023 triumph in Rome for the contest at Bethpage Black, with Thomas Bjorn, Edoardo Molinari, Jose Maria Olazabal, and Francesco Molinari all returning.

Colsaerts, who played a starring role in Europe's famed "Miracle at Medinah" win in 2012, has been replaced in the backroom team by Alex Noren.

Eleven of the twelve players from Rome are also back, with only Rasmus Hojgaard replacing twin brother Nicolai.

Speaking on the Sky Sports Golf podcast, Colsaerts said: "Yeah, very disappointed, because it’s a competition that I live for that has basically been the only thing that will get me out of bed for the last couple of years. Extremely disappointed, yes, but the captain is in charge.

"There are no hard feelings to have about the decision the captain makes. Also, because the respect of the competition and the respect of who is representing us every two years, I would always back them.

"Yes, of course I would have loved to be there and more than that I would have loved to help. It’s the fact that I’m not able to help that I’m disappointed and sad about."

Although not part of the official team set-up, Colsaerts will still be around during Ryder Cup week, and has insisted his support for Team Europe is unwavering as they bid to retain the trophy.

"At the same time, I’m going for a couple of days. I’m going to mingle a little bit with them early in the week.

"I would always back the team. I would always wish them good luck. I would always think the world about the guys that are representing us and I hope that we keep the cup."
