For some, August is a month of rest. To go to the beach, eat whatever you feel like and rest before returning to a new course. However, for the fighters who have dates in this atypical month of the year, it is still a month of hard work. In the eighth month of 2024, three bouts will motivate martial arts fans.
The first is between Christian Mbilli and Sergiy Derevyanchenko. The two super-middleweights are destined to be one of the title fights of the year. In a 10-round fight, three-time super middleweight world title challenger Derevyanchenko will get another shot at the belt in arguably one of the toughest bouts he has ever had. The French-Cameroonian, undefeated with 27 wins (and 23 knockouts) will not let the third time be the charm. The fight is scheduled for 10 p.m. Canadian time, as it is in Quebec.
For the nostalgic, Floyd Mayweather will reprise his fight against John Gotti III on display. After a first fight that ended with a pitched battle in the ring, this second one is expected to be just as tense but only between the two protagonists. With constant verbal sparring between the two, the epic fight that took place in Florida will be repeated on 24 August. This time, Mexico City will host the evening to try to calm the waters in a neutral venue for both. Good thing this is an exhibition, who knows what would happen if a title fight were to take place.
And last but not least, a fight for the Colombians: Diego Pacheco vs Maciej Sulecki, another two great super middleweight fighters but this time in the WBO. The Pole comes into this fight as a contender with a scary record, not only because of the sheer volume, but also because of the few defeats he has taken in his 32 fights won and 30 victories. At 35 years of age, he will face a young Pacheco who is the champion and at just 23 years of age has a bright future in the division. The Mexican is undefeated with 21 wins, has a perfect record for his young age, and a punch (17 knockouts) that makes you tremble.
Three stellar fights in a month when the world takes a break. You can't complain that there's nothing on TV.
