Neymar 'cried for hours' after Brazil World Cup call-up

Neymar has been selected by Carlo Ancelotti for Brazil's World Cup squad, and the attacker has revealed his emotional reaction.

Neymar has revealed he "cried for hours" in the wake of his Brazil recall for the World Cup.

The 34-year-old, who is Brazil's record goalscorer, having netted 79 times for the five-time world champions, has not featured for the Selecao in almost three years.

Neymar tore his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during a clash with Uruguay in 2023, shortly after his move from Paris Saint-Germain to Al-Hilal.

Carlo Ancelotti had previously left Neymar out of his selections, though the Italian always left the door open for the former Barcelona attacker to return in time for the World Cup if he could prove his fitness.

And on Monday, Neymar made Brazil's squad.

"It's difficult to explain with words the emotions I've felt," Neymar said, as reported by ESPN.

"I want to thank everyone here. This call-up wasn't just for me but for everyone involved in the process, everyone who was with me on the pitch, off the pitch, looking after our safety, our fitness and our meals. I admit that I cried for several hours because it was by no means easy to arrive at this point.

"Those who have been with me through it all know that it was difficult, it was hard. But after hearing my name on the list, all the sacrifices and all the effort was worth it.

"Thank you for your support, for always believing in me.

"I'm here to thank you for your support throughout my career. We're in this together as Brazil heads for a sixth World Cup title."

Brazil will take on Morocco, Haiti and Scotland in World Cup Group C.

A notable absentee from Brazil's squad was Joao Pedro, who has been named Chelsea's player of the season, while Richarlison, who starred under Ancelotti at Everton and scored a stunner at the 2022 World Cup, has always missed out.
