NBA gives 76ers' George 25-game drug ban

Nine-time All-Star Paul George has been suspended 25 games by the NBA for violating the league’s Anti-Drug Program.

The NBA suspended Philadelphia 76ers star Paul George 25 games on Saturday for violating the league’s anti-drug policy.

Barring any scheduling changes, the nine-time All-Star will be eligible to return to the lineup on March 25 against the Chicago Bulls with 10 games remaining in Philadelphia’s season.

The 76ers (26-21) entered Saturday’s visit from the New Orleans Pelicans 3 ½ games back in the Atlantic Division and in sixth place in the Eastern Conference.

The oft-injured George has been limited to 27 games this season and is averaging 16 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.48 steals.

He only played in 41 games last season in the first year of a four-year, $212million contract with Philadelphia.

George, 35, has averaged 20.5 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.69 steals in 935 career games since being selected by the Indiana Pacers with the 10th overall pick of the 2010 NBA Draft.
