Napoli face stern Bologna test as injury-hit Inter take on Parma
In what could be a huge weekend in the Serie A title race, Inter and Napoli face tough trips away from home while Atalanta take on Lazio.
Napoli's pursuit of Serie A leaders Inter will face a severe test in the final game of Matchday 31 when they face in-form Bologna, who have won their last five league games.
Antonio Conte's side find themselves three points behind Inter at the summit with eight matches of their respective seasons, leaving little margin for error.
But they have enjoyed recent fixtures against Bologna. Indeed, they have not lost in nine of their last 10 league matches (W6 D3) against them.
Napoli have also scored the most goals against Bologna in Serie A (197). They have also won 50 of their 131 league matches against them (D39 L42).
Only against Lazio (54), Fiorentina (54) and Torino (52) have they registered more wins against a single opponent in the competition, but this will not be as easy.
Bologna have won their last five league games, though. Only three times previously have they recorded more consecutive wins in their history in Serie A.
They managed six league victories under Thiago Motta in 2024 and Luis Carniglia in 1967, while also registering 10 straight wins under Fulvio Bernardini in 1964.
In 2025, Bologna have scored the most goals (25) in Serie A. Only Roma have picked up more points (32) than them (28 in 13 matches – W8 D4 L1) in the competition.
But Napoli will be buoyed by the return of midfielder Scott McTominay, who missed last week's 2-1 win over AC Milan due to illness.
Frank Anguissa is also back to full fitness, with Conte's squad now nearing full strength, except for injured defender Leonardo Spinazzola.
And Inter will be watching nervously over their shoulder, with Simone Inzaghi's team travelling to the Stadio Ennio Tardini to face Parma with several injuries to contend with.
Denzel Dumfries is expected to have an extended period on the sidelines after suffering a setback in his recovery from a hamstring injury.
Lautaro Martinez, Federico Dimarco, and Marko Arnautovic are also doubts ahead of a critical point in the season.
Inter face a two-legged Champions League quarter-final tie with Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich, as well as their Coppa Italia semi-final second leg against Milan.
But Inter are unbeaten in their last six league matches against Parma (W4 D2), with the last win for Saturday's hosts in Serie A dating back to 15 September 2018.
They have won their last two league games against Parma, last registering more consecutive victories against them between 2006 and 2009 (five).
Parma, meanwhile, have enjoyed a revival of their own. They are unbeaten in four of their five Serie A games under Cristian Chivu (W1 D3), as many times as in their previous 13 league games under Fabio Pecchia (W2 D2).
The 18 matches played in Serie A since 2000 at the Tardini between Parma and Inter are balanced, with seven wins each and four draws. The Nerazzurri have, however, won the last three away matches against them in the league.
For Atalanta, their hopes of lifting the Serie A crown this season were dealt a hammer blow last time out following a 1-0 defeat to Fiorentina.
Gian Piero Gasperini conceded that the title race was over for his side, but he will be looking to return to winning ways against Lazio following back-to-back league losses.
Atalanta have won 38 of their 113 matches against Lazio in Serie A (D43 L32), a joint-record in terms of wins for them in the competition (also 38 against Bologna).
You might be expecting goals, with 41 goals scored between the two sides in their last 11 Serie A meetings in Bergamo, an average of 3.7 goals per game.
But Atalanta have failed to score in their last three league games at the Gewiss Stadium. Only five times in their Serie A history have they gone four consecutive home matches without finding the net, most recently between November and December 2004.
Igor Tudor, meanwhile, will take charge of his second match as Juventus head coach when they travel to Roma, who are finding some rhythm under Claudio Ranieri.
Roma have won their last seven league games and have only won eight or more matches in a row in their Serie A history on four occasions, with each of those coming since 2005-06. The last one was between January and March 2016 (eight under Luciano Spalletti).
They have also kept a clean sheet in six of their last seven league games as many clean sheets as they collected (six) in their first 23 games in Serie A this season.
Milan will host Fiorentina on Saturday in what few would have predicted at the start of the season would be a mid-table clash.
The match sees ninth-placed Milan face eighth-placed Fiorentina, with both sides looking to rediscover their form for the last part of the campaign.
Fiorentina will face Milan with more points in the Serie A table at the start of the matchday for the first time since December 2017. Overall, the Viola have avoided defeat in four (W3 D1) of their six meetings with the Rossoneri in the top-flight when ahead in the table (W3 D1).
Milan, meanwhile, have recorded four defeats in a run of six Serie A games (W2) under a single manager for the first time since between August and September 2019, when Marco Giampaolo was at the helm.
They have won each of their last four league matches at the San Siro against Fiorentina, though. But the last time Milan won five or more successive Serie A home games against Saturday's opponents was between 1948 and 1955 (eight in that case).
