WNBA: Clark returns with 32 points, 7 3-pointers to help Fever win

Caitlin Clark showed no ill effects from a five-game absence and the Fever handed the Liberty their first loss of the season, 102-88

Caitlin Clark scored 25 of her season-high 32 points in the first half in her return after a five-game absence and the Indiana Fever sent the New York Liberty to their first loss of the season, 102-88 on Saturday.

Clark finished 11-for-20 shooting, including tying her career-high with seven made 3-pointers in 14 attempts. With Clark's presence opening the floor, the Fever (5-5) set a franchise record with 17-made 3s in 35 attempts (48.6%). Clark also distributed nine assists and grabbed eight rebounds.

It was Clark's third career WNBA game in which she scored at least 30 points, grabbed at least five rebounds and distributed at least five assists.

Kelsey Mitchell added 22 points, Lexie Hull 14 and Aliyah Boston scored 10 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. It was the first time this season Indiana reached triple digits.

The Fever posted a 2-3 record with Clark out of the lineup with a strained quadricep.

Sabrina Ionescu scored a season-high 34 points on 11-of-20 shooting, including 4 for 10 from 3. Breanna Stewart scored 24 points for the Liberty (9-1), who were the league’s last remaining unbeaten team.

Collier’s big game helps Lynx bounce back

Napheesa Collier racked up 32 points to help the Minnesota Lynx get back on track with a 101-78 rout of the Los Angeles Sparks.

Collier, the WNBA's scoring leader, went 13 of 16 from the field while adding eight rebounds and six assists as the Lynx bounced back from their lone loss this season. Minnesota won its first nine games prior to Wednesday's 94-84 defeat to the Seattle Storm.

Minnesota also received 17 points from Courtney Williams and 14 points off the bench from Natisha Hiedeman in a game it controlled virtually throughout.

Kelsey Plum, the Sparks' top scorer, managed 20 points but was held to 5-of-16 shooting. Rickea Jackson finished with 18 points for Los Angeles (4-8), while Dearica Hamby posted 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Collier scored the final seven points of a 15-0 run that staked the Lynx to a 24-8 lead late in the first quarter. The Lynx's margin remained in double digits the rest of the way, and they cruised into half-time having a 58-26 advantage behind Collier's 26 points and 15 from Williams.

Thornton carries Valkyries past Storm

Kayla Thornton scored 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds and Temi Fagbenle added 16 points as the Golden State Valkyries beat the Seattle Storm 76-70.

Carla Leite contributed 14 points for Golden State (5-5).

Skylar Diggins scored 21 points, reserve Alysha Clark had 11 points and Ezi Magbegor 10 for the Storm (6-5).
