Spoelstra 'embracing the unknown' after Heat's buzzer-beating win
The Miami Heat made it three straight wins after a play Erik Spoelstra had been waiting to use came to fruition in style on Monday.
Erik Spoelstra said he was "embracing the unknown" after a clutch play came up with the goods for the Miami Heat against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
With Monday's game tied at 138-138 with only four-tenths of a second remaining in overtime, Spoelstra called a play that had been designed by his assistant coach Chris Quinn four years ago.
Norman Powell created a distraction while Davion Mitchell screened, enabling Nikola Jovic to throw a pass to Andrew Wiggins, who was on hand to dunk in and beat the buzzer, sealing a 140-138 triumph.
The Heat are now 7-4 for the season and have won their last three games.
"I'm just embracing the unknown, embracing the confidence guys are gaining in what we're doing," Spoelstra said, via ESPN.
"It always helps when you get some W's out of it, but guys understand our identity to defend and now can create some things for us offensively.
"Guys are growing right before our eyes."
FINAL (OT): Cavs 138, HEAT 140
— Miami HEAT (@MiamiHEAT) November 11, 2025
Powell: 33pts
Wiggins: 23pts, 5asts
Jaquez Jr.: 22pts, 13rebs, 7asts
Ware: 14pts, 20rebs
Mitchell: 11pts, 8asts
Fontecchio: 13pts
Larsson: 10pts, 5rebs, 4asts
This was the first meeting between these teams since their playoff first-round series last season.
The Cavs stormed to a 138-83 victory in Game 4 to complete a sweep, but this Miami team is now built differently.
"The new offense, it's night and day," Wiggins said.
"We're out there, playing with a lot of joy, playing fast. Everyone's out there in great rhythm, so it's been a great start to the year."
Donovan Mitchell levelled the scores with a 3-pointer just before Miami's winning dunk.
"That's a chess game. Chess match. You've got to give them credit," he said.
"They made an excellent read, an excellent call and you learn from these things. This is great this happened now.
"This is something that, you get to a situation later in the year and say, 'OK, we understand where we can adjust.' We watch the film and go from there."
