Swiatek reaches first grass-court final at Bad Homburg Open

Iga Swiatek will attempt to win her first grass-court title on Saturday, having beaten Jasmine Paolini in the Bad Homburg Open semi-finals.

Iga Swiatek reached the first grass-court final of her career in style on Friday, sweeping Jasmine Paolini aside for a 6-1 6-3 victory at the Bad Homburg Open.

Grass courts have not been kind to the five-time grand slam champion in the past, with her 22 previous WTA Tour-level finals coming on hard courts (12) or clay (10).

But Swiatek has impressed at this week's event in Germany – her only grass-court tournament before Wimbledon – with Friday's semi-final win her most eye-catching yet.

The world number eight started as she meant to go on by breaking Paolini in the opening game.

After passing up two opportunities to make it a double break in game three, Swiatek reeled off the next four games – two against the serve – to hit the front inside half an hour.

Paolini showed signs of life with a break at the start of the second set, but Swiatek immediately broke back to love and would only give up one further point on serve.

Another break in game six got Swiatek over the line, with the Pole taking five of her 10 break-point opportunities throughout the match.

She will face either Jessica Pegula or Linda Noskova in Saturday's final, ahead of her Wimbledon opener against Polina Kudermetova.

Data Debrief: Ten in a row?

This was Swiatek's second appearance in the Bad Homburg semi-finals, making her just the third player to reach that stage on multiple occasions after Katerina Siniakova and Emma Navarro.

Her victory will lead to a first appearance in a grass-court showpiece match at any level, though she has won each of her last nine finals.

This will be her first final since the 2024 French Open, with her last seven finals being at grand slam or WTA 1000 level. Swiatek has not won a title since triumphing at last year's Roland-Garros.
