Sinner and Djokovic on collision course for Wimbledon semis

Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic could meet in another grand slam semi-final, with Carlos Alcaraz on the opposite side of the draw.

Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic could meet in a blockbuster Wimbledon semi-final clash as the Italian looks to claim a maiden title at All England Club.

The Italian won the Australian Open to start the year but suffered heartbreak at Roland-Garros after giving up a two-set lead to lose to Carlos Alcaraz in a mammoth final.

Sinner also faced Djokovic in the semi-finals of the French Open, triumphing in straight sets, and a rematch could be on the cards in the last four at Wimbledon.

The world number one will begin his bid against compatriot Luca Nardi, while Djokovic, competing at his lowest seeding (sixth) since 2018, will begin against Alexandre Muller as he bids to earn a record-breaking 25th grand slam title, and an eighth at Wimbledon.

In the Open Era, the men's singles top seed holds a combined win-loss record of 24-0 against compatriots in opening matches at grand slam events.

Djokovic, who beat Sinner at Wimbledon in the latter stages in 2022 and 2023, would potentially need to get past fourth seed Jack Draper in the quarter-finals, with the Brit starting against Sebastian Baez.

Two-time defending champion Carlos Alcaraz is on the other side of the draw and brings an 18-match winning streak into his opener against Fabio Fognini.

He could come face to face with either Alexander Zverev or Taylor Fritz, who are seeded for a quarter-final meeting, in the semis. The German will start his campaign against Arthur Rinderknech, while Fritz faces big-serving Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.

Meanwhile, on the women's side of the draw, Aryna Sabalenka's section features potential obstacles as she aims to reach at least a maiden final at Wimbledon.

She begins against fast-rising qualifier Carson Branstine, with Emma Raducanu a potential fourth-round opponent, while there could be a repeat of the Australian Open final, which Sabalenka lost, in the quarters, with Madison Keys a projected match-up.

Raducanu will be looking to hit the ground running in an all-British opener against Mimi Xu, while Keys faces Elena-Gabriela Ruse, whom she beat en route to her Australian Open crown.

French Open champion Coco Gauff starts against Nottingham Open finalist Dayana Yastremska and could face Iga Swiatek in an eye-catching quarter-final clash if they both make it to the second week.

Swiatek, who is into her first-ever grass-court final at Bad Homburg, is the eighth seed, her lowest at a grand slam since the French Open in 2021.

She opens against Polina Kudermetova and is projected to meet Marta Kostyuk in the third round before what would be a tricky match-up with Elena Rybakina in the fourth.

Former world number one Naomi Osaka will face qualifier Talia Gibson, while defending champion Barbora Krejcikova, who has suffered an injury scare in the last few days, will open her title defence against breakout star Alexandra Eala, who has reached her first grass-court final at Eastbourne this week.
