Koke hit out at the officiating during Atletico Madrid's 4-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain at the Club World Cup.

Atleti were dispatched by the European champions in their Group B opener at the Rose Bowl on Sunday.

Fabian Ruiz and Vitinha put PSG 2-0 up before half-time, with Senny Mayulu and Lee Kang-in rounding out an emphatic victory for PSG late on, after Clement Lenglet had seen red.

But matters may have been different had Atleti not had a goal disallowed with the score at 2-0. Julian Alvarez slotted in at the end of a swift counter, yet it was chalked off after referee Istvan Kovacs consulted with VAR and awarded PSG a free-kick for a foul by Koke on Desire Doue.

And Atleti stalwart Koke feels some tight calls went against Diego Simeone's team.

"The team had started well, but we know PSG's level, they're European champions for a reason," Koke told reporters.

"We knew it was going to be tough, but for me, 4-0 isn't fair. The team tried to push forward; we had chances. We even scored to make it 2-1, but he ruled it out with a foul that if he wants to call it, he'll call it, and if he doesn't, he won't.

"We've all seen what happened, the small details that led to it. PSG are fair winners; given their level, they were better. Congratulations to them.

"We have to push harder, like in the second half, when we saw a different team, wanting the ball, attacking. The sending-off killed us."

Simeone, though, refused to get drawn into too much of a discussion around the referee's performance.

"I'm bored with talking about repetitive topics," he said. "Otherwise, we always seem like victims, and I don't feel like a victim of anything.

"We played against a great opponent, who was better than us. But the details are obvious."

PSG have scored 105 goals since the start of 2025, more than any other team from Europe's top five leagues.

Luis Enrique's team have also accumulated more expected goals (93), had more shots (682) and had more shots on target (286) of any team from Europe's big five competitions in the same time.

This encounter came just 15 days after PSG thrashed Inter 5-0 in the Champions League final, and asked how the players stayed motivated, club captain Marquinhos told DAZN: "You never know how a match will go, especially against an opponent you know, who defends very well.

"They're a very tough opponent to play against. We had difficulties against them in the Champions League, but our team showed its strength again today.

"Even though we won the Champions League two weeks ago, we're motivated and we put in the right intensity. It's huge. We just have to congratulate our team, keep going like this, be humble and calm. Keep defending and attacking."
