Kohli leads RCB past Punjab to fifth straight IPL away win
Royal Challengers Bengaluru exacted revenge on Punjab Kings after Friday's Indian Premier League defeat, getting a seven-wicket win.
Virat Kohli's 67th Indian Premier League half-century ensured Royal Challengers Bengaluru continued their perfect away form with a seven-wicket victory over Punjab Kings.
Less than 48 hours after their rain-delayed meeting in Bengaluru, which saw RCB collapse, they exacted revenge in style with seven balls to spare in Mullanpur.
Punjab started on the front foot, with Priyansh Arya (22) and Prabhsimran Singh (33) going big in the early stages of the power play, before the former's dismissal in the fifth over.
RCB gained control after that, though, with Singh, Shreyas Iyer (six) and Nehal Wadhera (five), who was needlessly run out by Kohli, all skittled out in quick succession.
Suyash Sharma then picked up two wickets in the 14th over as Punjab slipped to 114-6 – he sent stumps flying to dismiss Josh Inglis (29) and Marcus Stoinis (one) within three balls.
Shashank Singh plundered an unbeaten 31 as he and Marco Jansen (25) tried to go big at the death, but they could only drag Punjab to 157-6 by the end of the innings.
Like he did on Friday, Arshdeep Singh took Phil Salt (one) early, finishing his stand at the end of the first over, but it was not a sign of things to come for Punjab.
Kohli's unbeaten 73 contributed to a 103-run partnership for the second wicket before Wadhera caught Davdutt Padikkal to end his stand at 61, which included five fours and four maximums.
Rajat Patidar added another 12, but Yuzendra Chahal was only to delay the inevitable with that wicket in the 17th over, and Jitesh Sharma hit the winning six to take RCB to 159-3 and earn a fifth straight win on the road.

Data Debrief: Record-breaking Kohli steals the show
Kohli was caught after just one run when the sides met on Friday, but he was in fine form this time around.
His 67 half-centuries are the most of any batter in the IPL, overtaking David Warner's record of 66.
At the other end of the scale, Padikkal scored his first IPL fifty in 22 innings as RCB put their torrid home form behind them once again.
They have moved to 10 points, level with Punjab, but sit above Sunday's opponents in the table.
