Knicks reaching the NBA Finals is a 'magical, historic thing', says Towns

New York Knicks ended their 27-year wait to return to the NBA Finals, breezing past the Cleveland Cavaliers to continue their winning run.

Karl-Anthony Towns says that the New York Knicks reaching the NBA Finals for the first time since 1999 is a "magical thing".

The Knicks beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 130-93 on Monday to finish off a 4-0 sweep in the Eastern Conference finals.

New York have now won 11 straight games in the playoffs, with their winning streak the joint-third longest in NBA history. Each of the victories in that run have seen them outscore their opponents by an average of 23.8 points.

Jalen Brunson was named MVP of the East finals after averaging 25.5 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 3.3 assists in the four-game sweep of the Cavaliers.

OG Anunoby added 16.3 points, 5.8 boards and 3.3 assists per game in the series, Towns averaged 15.8 points, 12 rebounds and four assists, and Josh Hart contributed 14.3 points, 7.8 boards, 5.5 assists and 2.25 steals.

"It's a magical thing, it's a historic thing," Towns said. "It's something New York has been dying for, for a long time.

"I know how this team works. It's OK for New York, the fans, us, our families, to enjoy this moment and be jubilant about this.

"But for us as players, the job is not done."

The Knicks led by 20 early in the second quarter and did not look back. Towns got a team-high 19 points, with Anunoby adding 17, while Brunson and Mikal Bridges both got 15.

"I don't think a switch flipped, per se. I think that was the start of the habits we were building, starting to show," Hart said.

"This is a very selfless group, and we were willing to sacrifice our own individual performances, or stats or accolades for the betterment of the team.

"When you have not just one or two or three, but a whole team of those kind of guys and that kind of character, it puts you in position to be successful."
