Ireland captain Doris to undergo shoulder surgery
Caelan Doris' summer tour with the British and Irish Lions has been thrown into doubt due to scheduled shoulder surgery.
Ireland captain Caelan Doris' involvement with the British and Irish Lions has been thrown into doubt after it was confirmed he is having shoulder surgery this week.
The Leinster player will miss the remainder of the United Rugby Championship season, with him going under the knife on Tuesday or Wednesday.
The injury that requires surgery was picked up in Leinster's 37-34 defeat to the Northampton Saints in the European Champions Cup semi-final on Saturday.
He has scored eight tries for club and country during the 2024/25 season, including one in defeat on Saturday.
In a club statement, it was suggested that "the full extent of the injury, and implications for the summer, won't be known until after the procedure."
Having been a strong initial contender to captain the Lions, Doris may now not be fit enough to make the squad.
