Ford 'proud' after England overcome storm delay to beat USA

England were without a lot of their regulars for their summer tour, but they earned a clean sweep with a comfortable win in Washington.

George Ford expressed his pride at England's young side completing a clean sweep of the summer tour after a 40-5 win over the United States on Saturday.

England also beat Argentina twice in South America to start their tour and recorded another comprehensive victory in Washington DC after shrugging off two lengthy delays, including an hour prior to kick-off, caused by lightning.

The visitors crossed six times, with the tries shared between Curtis Langdon, Luke Northmore, Cadan Murley, Jack van Poortvliet, Harry Randall and Gabriel Oghre.

Ford also added four conversions, and Charlie Atkinson one, as England registered an eighth consecutive win over the USA, and were helped when the hosts were reduced to 10 early for a deliberate knock-on from Chris Hilsenbeck.

England dominated throughout, though the USA managed a consolation score late on when Shilo Klein crossed.

With some of England's regulars on duty with the British and Irish Lions, they have not been at full strength, with four players making their debuts on Saturday.

And Ford was delighted with the whole squad's performances over the course of the month.

"The boys have been unbelievable all tour. They deserve that [win]," said Ford. "It is a proud moment for the families, so we will celebrate.

"There has been a lot of hard work, and the conditions were difficult.

"We have won all three games, we have had six new caps, I am proud of the effort of everyone."

England are now not in action until November, when they take on Australia, Fiji, New Zealand and Argentina.
