Emma Raducanu dug deep to overcome a slight wobble in the second set against Maria Sakkari to book her place in the Washington Open semi-finals.

Raducanu had looked like she might be heading to a decider, but she brilliantly turned things around to earn a 6-4 7-5 win in just over two hours.

After enjoying a dominant win over Naomi Osaka to reach the quarter-final, Raducanu struggled to find her groove early on, with Sakkari getting an early break to go 2-0 up.

The Brit immediately hit back, but the pair traded breaks again later in the opening set, with Raducanu getting the edge thanks to two in a row before converting her second set point.

There was little to split the pair at the start of the second, though Sakkari looked to have gained control as another break saw her charge into a 5-2 lead.

However, she never managed to even earn a set point from that position, with Raducanu seamlessly reeling off the last five games to book her place in the final four.

She will face either Anna Kalinskaya or Clara Tauson for a place in the final.

Data Debrief: Raducanu ends semi-final wait

Raducanu has not played in a WTA Tour-level semi-final in more than a year, when she was knocked out by fellow Brit Katie Boulter in Nottingham.

It is also her first appearance in the final four on hard courts in over three years, but she has improved on her previous two appearances in Washington, having failed to get past the quarters in 2022 and 2024.

Her quarter-final record is now 3-9 after a fourth straight win over Sakkari, but she will now be hoping to reach her first final since her US Open triumph in 2021.
