Kishan's stunning knock dents RCB's hopes of top-two finish in IPL
Royal Challengers Bengaluru lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad on Friday to dent their hopes of a top-two finish in the Indian Premier League.
Ishan Kishan's sensational battling display earned Sunrisers Hyderabad a 42-run victory over Royal Challengers Bengaluru to dent their hopes of a top-two finish.
RCB lost their final seven wickets for just 16 runs in a late collapse, despite Phil Salt's blistering 62 runs from 32 deliveries getting them off to a flying start.
But the Sunrisers, led by Pat Cummins' 3-28, were able to restrict their opponents to just 189 runs, having ended their own batting innings 231-6.
Abhishek Sharma (34) fell in the fourth over before Travis Head (17) quickly followed, but with Ishan Kishan at the crease, Hyderabad began to pile on the runs in Lucknow.
Kishan's produced a stunning innings of 94 runs from 48 deliveries, smashing seven fours and five maximums across his 86-minute spell with the bat.
But the Sunrisers talisman was not helped by his team-mates, with Heinrich Klaasen (24) and Aniket Verman (nine) dismissed in quick succession as their middle order tumbled.
Nitish Kumar Reddy (four), Abhinav Manohar (12) and Cummins (13 not out) also struggled, but Kishan's fine knock gave RCB a total of 232 for the victory.
It took until the seventh over for Hyderabad to claim their first wicket as Virat Kholi (43) fell to Harsh Dubey (1-20) before Mayank Agarwal was caught on 11 runs.
Once Salt was removed by Cummins, RCB saw their batting order collapse, with Jitesh Sharma top scoring with 24 as the remaining batters failed to reach double figures.
RCB remain third in the standings and a point behind leaders Gujarat Titans, but now have the Punjab Kings breathing down their necks.

Data Debrief: Kishan leads from the front
After falling just short of his season-best 106 not out in this season's IPL, Kishan's exceptional innings moved him up to 325 runs for the tournament, with only Klaasen (382) scoring more for the Sunrisers this campaign.
And with Hyderabad posting a total of 200 or more runs in their innings, it marked the 42nd time that a team had posted that score in the IPL this season, surpassing the most in the competition's history, which came in 2024 (41).
Gujarat Titans lead the way with six 200+ run innings, followed by the Lucknow Super Giants and Rajasthan Royals, who have both managed five apiece.
