Brest 2-0 Marseille: Beye makes losing start after Ajorque double

Habib Beye's first Marseille game on the touchline ended in defeat, as Ludovic Ajorque's first-half brace was enough to secure Brest's win.

Ludovic Ajorque netted a brace to clinch a 2-0 win for Brest over Marseille, who made a losing start under Habib Beye.

Beye was named as Roberto De Zerbi's successor on Thursday, but he could not make the perfect start to life at his new club despite a spirited second half in which Mason Greenwood missed a penalty.

Brest made a bright start, with Ajorque getting in front of his marker to glance Hugo Magnetti's flick on past a helpless Geronimo Rulli in the 10th minute.

Daouda Guindo and Greenwood saw chances go begging at either end before Ajorque rose highest to meet Magentti's wonderful curling delivery and thump his header in off the left post in the 29th minute.

And Ajorque could have had a hat-trick before the break after slipping between Marseille's defenders, but his powerful shot ricocheted off the crossbar.

Marseille improved after the break, with Quinten Timber forcing Gregoire Coudert into a low stop before they were given a golden opportunity from the spot in the 82nd minute.

Guindo clumsily caught Greenwood from behind in the box, but having won the penalty, the forward struck his spot-kick to Coudert's right, and it was a good height for the goalkeeper to push away and protect his clean sheet.

Data Debrief: Marseille slump on the road again

Marseille have not won any of their last four Ligue 1 matches (D2 L2), with this their longest winless streak in the top-flight since March-April 2024.

They have had particular problems on the road, as of late, conceding 12 goals in their last four such matches in all competitions, more than in their previous 10 (10 goals conceded).

In 2026, Marseille have the worst defence away from home in Ligue 1, with 11 goals conceded. They only gave away 1.13 expected goals against (xGA) in this game from 12 shots, while underperforming their 1.42 xG at the other end.

As for Brest, who are now up to 11th in the table, they have picked up 16 points against teams in the top half of the Ligue 1 table this season. Ajorque led the charge, having a team-high five shots, while scoring with both attempts on target, and adding 0.8 xG to Brest's total.
