Bonmati hails 'golden generation' of Spanish football ahead of Euros final
Spain's semi-final hero and Ballon d'Or winner Aitana Bonmati believes she is playing with a generational squad as they chase Euros glory.
Aitana Bonmati believes she is part of a "golden generation" of Spanish football as they prepare for the Euro 2025 final against England.
The midfielder scored the winning goal in the semi-final as they beat Germany 1-0 after extra time, and also provided a backheel assist in their last-eight win over Switzerland.
Following their 2023 World Cup triumph, Spain are looking to become just the second nation to hold both titles at the same time in women's football, after Germany did so between 2001 and 2009.
Bonmati is one of many talented players in the Spain squad, alongside fellow Ballon d'Or winner Alexia Putellas, one of the favourites to win the award this year, in Arsenal's Mariona Caldentey, and promising youngster Claudia Pina.
"I think there has already been confirmation, with all due respect. This shows that we are a golden generation. We are experiencing unique things," said Bonmati.

This will be the third meeting between the two nations since the 2023 World Cup final, after they were also drawn together in their Nations League group.
Both teams won their respective home fixtures, and although the last matchup happened as recently as June 3, Putellas is focused on enjoying the final.
"It's a final. It doesn't matter how England have been so far, they have very good players. I think it's going to be a very good game. It's becoming a bit repetitive to play against them," said Putellas.
"I always try to enjoy myself, but that doesn't mean going out to laugh. You have to know how to manage the adrenaline and turn it into enjoyment. The trust is absolute.
"That's why we've won in these years. 10 years ago, if you look back, we would miss these games. Now I don't want to say it too loudly, but normally they haven't escaped us."
