Feyenoord's draw with Volendam crowns PSV Eredivisie champions

PSV claimed their third consecutive Eredivisie crown after Feyenoord were only able to draw away to Volendam on Sunday.

PSV were crowned Eredivisie champions for the 27th time after second-placed Feyenoord were held to a 0-0 draw by lowly Volendam.

Robin van Persie's side knew victory was a must at Kras Stadion on Sunday, but they were unable to deliver, with PSV's 17-point lead at the top now unassailable.

A day earlier, PSV came out on top in a dramatic seven-goal thriller with Utrecht, with Couhaib Driouech scoring a 94th-minute winner to snatch a stunning 4-3 victory.

Artem Stepanov and Gjivai Zechiel had given Utretch a two-goal lead after 13 minutes, though Ismael Saibari was able to reduce the deficit in the 21st minute.

The game turned again early in the second half as two goals in four minutes from Saibari and Guus Til put PSV ahead, but Jesper Karlsson levelled eight minutes from time.

However, in the fourth minute of stoppage time, Driouech collected the ball on the left before cutting inside and firing off a shot that somehow squeezed past Vasilios Barkas.

Peter Bosz's side faced a nervous wait to see whether they would be crowned champions, but Feyenoord limped to a disappointing goalless draw with 14th-placed Volendam.

Volendam had the better of the expected goals (xG) battle, registering a tally of 1.45 from their 13 shots to Feyenoord's 1.23 from 17 attempts, four of which were on target.

That saw PSV become the earliest champions by date in Eredivisie history, beating their own record, which they set on April 8, 1978.

PSV's third consecutive Eredivisie title makes the Eindhoven outfit the first team to win three straight since Ajax did so between 2019 and 2022, under Erik ten Hag.

And Bosz also put himself into elite company, with PSV having only won three consecutive titles twice before in their history.

Jan Reker and Guus Hiddink won four titles in a row with PSV between 1986 and 1989, a period that also included their historic European Cup triumph in 1988.

Between 2005 and 2008, PSV also won four consecutive league titles, then under the stewardship of Sef Vergoossen, Ronald Koeman, and Hiddink.
