Farrell urges Lions to 'put hands up for selection' for second Australia Test
Andy Farrell has rung in the changes for the British and Irish Lions' last midweek game, giving other players a chance to prove themselves.
Andy Farrell wants his British and Irish Lions players to use Tuesday's match against a First Nations & Pasifika XV as an opportunity to force their way into Test contention.
The Lions will play their final midweek game in Melbourne, with none of the players who started the first Test win against Australia on Saturday in the starting line-up.
Owen Farrell will captain the Lions for the first time at Marvel Stadium, while the likes of Blair Kinghorn, returning from injury, and Fin Smith, who had featured regularly early in the tour, will be among the starters.
Garry Ringrose has also overcome a concussion to start on the bench, having seen a superb start to the tour interrupted by injury.
Though Farrell is not expected to make major changes for the second Test against Australia on Saturday, he has urged the players to put themselves into his thoughts.
"This fixture gives players another opportunity to put their hand up for selection for the final two Tests," Farrell said.
"The coaches' minds are open when it comes to selection. They have to be with so many players performing and pushing for places, and we want that to continue for the remaining two Tests.
"This group know the level of performance that we will require against a First Nations & Pasifika team that is packed with talent and power."

While Kinghorn and Ringrose are set to be involved on Tuesday, the Lions still have injury concerns over Joe McCarthy and Mack Hansen.
Irish lock McCarthy was taken off with a foot problem early in the second half of the Lions' 27-19 victory over Australia last weekend. Hansen is struggling with a similar issue.
Neither player trained on Monday, but assistant coach Simon Easterby believes they both could be in contention come Saturday.
"Joe McCarthy is just recovering from that foot issue he had on the weekend. It's just a kind of wait-and-see type of injury," Easterby said.
"He's been pretty good. He knew what it was initially, and he tried to play through it. And it's probably one of those where it is better off that he came off in that circumstance.
"He didn't train [on Monday], but there's no reason why later on this week he won't be. Those types of injuries, there's a little bit of grey around how long they take, and it's really the individual recovery that will allow us to decide whether he's right to play or not.
"For Mack Hansen, it's just probably a little bit too soon in terms of playing tomorrow, but he's in good shape.
"He's certainly on track for the second Test. Again, he's probably one of those where you have the next 24-48 hours and then make a decision on it based on how he's recovering from the stuff he's been doing over the last few days.
"Mack wasn't involved in training today, but he's definitely on the right road to recovery. Tomorrow's game was slightly too soon for him."
