What Dota 2 esports fans need to know about the DreamLeague Season 25 playoffs and grand finale, with an old-school battle report.
The best 16 Dota 2 esports teams from across the globe competed at DreamLeague Season 25 from mid-February until 4 March 2025 for their share of the huge $1 million prize pool. At the current Dollar to Rand exchange rate, that's roughly R18.7 million. Let's take a look at what went down.
Results from DreamLeague S25DreamLeague Season 25 was an online event (Europe West servers), boasting three stages of competition. After two Group Stages, four teams remained, namely: PARIVISION, Tundra Esports, Team Spirit and Chimera Esports, in that order of performance.
Team Spirit showed their big-match temperament in the Lower Bracket Semifinals, coming back from a 0-1 deficit to beat Chimera Esports 2-1 with an exciting reverse-sweep.
In the Upper Bracket, Tundra Esports beat PARIVISION 2-1 to make it to the Grand Final of DreamLeague Season 25, and then Team Spirit knocked PARIVISION out of the tournament in the Lower Bracket final with a clean 2-0.
In the best-of-five Grand Final of DreamLeague Season 25, Team Spirit won the first game, and Tundra Esports retaliated by winning the second game. Team Spirit then won a long third game, but there were some issues.
In the middle of the Grand Final on 2 March, the match had to be paused due to technical issues. The match then resumed on 4 March 2025. ESL explained: "Unfortunately due to severe technical issues we are unable to proceed with the DreamLeague Season 25 Grand Finals."
When the Grand Final resumed, it was Thundra Esports who won the first game, tying it up 2-2 in the Grand Final. However, it was Team Spirit who eventually came out on top, beating Thundra Esports with a final score of 3-2. Congratulations go out to Team Spirit for winning DreamLeague Season 25, lifting the trophy and earning the lion's share of the prize pool at $250,000. For their efforts, ??? walks away with $100,000 in prize money.
