Ellis not feeling extra pressure as Australia hit back against Pakistan

Nathan Ellis took four wickets as Australia beat Pakistan by 41 runs to level their three-match ODI series heading into the final game.

Nathan Ellis was not feeling under extra pressure to perform as Australia's only frontline seamer against Pakistan.

Ellis took 4-33 and was named Player of the Match as Australia beat Pakistan by 41 runs in Lahore.

Australia have now tied the three-match ODI series 1-1 heading into the final game.

Ellis was Australia's only recognised fast bowler, though he did not feel under extra strain.

"Not added pressure," he said.

"I think it's definitely different to the traditional one-day cricket we see around the world at the moment, but I think one of the big strengths of this group is the willingness to be flexible, the willingness to adapt, and the willingness to try things a little bit out of the ordinary.

"So, no extra pressure, but yeah, a little bit different.

"I think it's no secret that today it was pretty low and slow, and so it meant you can bring your length back and still hit the top of the stump.

"Me being a little bit of a shorter bowler allows me to do that in most places anyway. But yeah, I think we saw the cutters and the slow balls working a lot today, and the ball started to tail and reverse swing through the 35 to 45 over mark."

Australia batted first and put up 231-9 from their 50 overs.

Alex Carey was dismissed with the very first ball and lost Matthew Short (15) in the eighth over, but the tourists recovered thanks to Josh Inglis' 51.

Arafat Minhas (2-27) ended Inglis' stand, but Cameron Green (53), Matt Renshaw (43) and Oliver Peake (31) picked up the mantle, while Shaheen Shah Afridi (3-36) was the pick of Pakistan's bowlers.

Ellis, with help from Adam Zampa (1-30) and Matthew Kuhnemann (1-41), made light work of the top of Pakistan's order, with only Ghazi Ghori (37) managing a decent contribution.

Shadab Khan put on a 104-ball 71 to offer Pakistan some hope, but those around him could not stay in before Tanveer Sangha (1-22) ended his stay at the crease, and the hosts' innings.

"I think we gave away 20-30 extra runs towards the end. We lost wickets early on and that built pressure on us," said Pakistan captain Afridi.
