Dawson replaces injured Bashir for fourth India Test
Liam Dawson will play in his first Test in eight years for England after earning a recall ahead of their clash with India on Wednesday.
England have made one change to their team for the upcoming fourth Test against India at Old Trafford on Wednesday, with Liam Dawson earning a recall.
Dawson, who last played a Test for England against South Africa in July 2017, replaces the injured Shoaib Bashir, who suffered a broken finger at Lord's.
After sustaining the injury, Bashir remained involved in the third Test and took the final wicket in a dramatic England victory, which put them 2-1 up in the series.
Dawson has played in just three Test matches in his career, taking seven wickets in total and scoring 84 runs against South Africa and India.
The 35-year-old had drifted out of contention for England's red and white-ball squads, but has been a star performer on the County Championship circuit with Hampshire.
Indeed, he amassed 49 wickets in 2023 and a further 53 in 2024, while also boasting 18 first-class hundreds at an average of 35.3.

One change from Lord's
"He brings experience and guile," batter Harry Brook told BBC Sport. "He's very skilful.
"He's been around the block, played hundreds of games, and he's a great bloke. He's very competitive and he's a very good player.
"He was very nervous before his T20 comeback, and I'm sure he'll be nervous this week. I'm sure he'll let his experience and skills take over."
Elsewhere, Chris Woakes has retained his place, holding off the challenge of Gus Atkinson after his struggles across the first three Tests.
Captain Ben Stokes' decision may be down to Woakes' record in Manchester, having averaged 37 with the bat and taken 17 wickets at the venue.
England XI for fourth Test v India: Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes (captain), Jamie Smith (wicketkeeper), Liam Dawson, Chris Woakes, Brydon Carse, Jofra Archer.
