Ruthless Pakistan end Bangladesh T20I series with consolation win

Pakistan ensured there would be no whitewash in their T20I series with Bangladesh, claiming an emphatic triumph in their final meeting.

Pakistan stormed to a 74-run victory over Bangladesh to claim a consolation win in the final match of their T20I series on Thursday.

Having lost the first two matches, the tourists put on an impressive showing with both bat and ball, setting Bangladesh a target of 179 that they fell drastically short of reaching.

Bangladesh won the toss and elected to field first, a decision they would regret as Pakistan openers Sahibzada Farhan and Saim Ayub hit the ground running in Dhaka.

It took until the ninth over for the hosts to finally make a breakthrough, with Nasum Ahmed (2-22) dismissing Ayub (21) to halt the opening-wicket partnership.

Farhan reached his half-century in just 29 deliveries before Nasum struck again to remove him for 63 in the 12th over, with Muhammad Haris (five) and Hassan Nawaz (33) quickly following.

Mohammad Nawaz then plundered 27 from just 16 balls to prevent a late collapse as only Salman Ali Agha (12) reached double figures from the remaining Pakistan batters.

However, it mattered little for Pakistan, who started quickly with the ball in hand as Tanzid Hasan went for a duck with just the second ball of the innings.

Bangladesh found themselves 41-7 heading towards the ninth over, with Mohammad Naim and Mehidy Hasan (both 10) top scoring for the team from the opening order.

Mohammad Saifuddin's unbeaten 35 prevented a complete humiliation, but Bangladesh were bowled out for 104 with Nawaz (2-4) sealing the win with the wicket of Shoriful Islam (seven).

Data Debrief: Mirza mesmerises on debut

Having been called up for his first T20I series for Pakistan, Salman Ali Mirza saved his finest performance for last as he ended with figures of 3-20, his best in the format.

He took seven wickets across the series, and his imperious middle-order spell had Bangladesh staring down the barrel of their lowest ever score in a T20I.

After scoring just 41 after eight overs, the 70 they registered against New Zealand in 2016 looked beatable, until Saifuddin stepped in to ensure that his team would not end a successful series with an unwanted record to their name.
