McSweeney devastated by Australia omission ahead of India fourth Test
Nathan McSweeney could not hide his disappointment following his omission ahead of Australia's fourth Test against India.
Nathan McSweeney spoke of his devastation after being omitted from Australia's squad for their fourth Test against India.
The 25-year-old was left out having struggled in difficult batting conditions across the opening three Tests.
McSweeney scored 72 runs in six innings, and was praised for his role in soaking up overs, though he failed to surpass 10 in five of those.
And he appears to have paid the price, with the Baggy Greens selectors seemingly focused on improving their top order and countering the threat of Jasprit Bumrah.
Nevertheless, McSweeney is determined to use the setback as motivation to respond in a positive manner.
"Yeah, devastated. I get the dream come true, and then it didn't quite work the way I wanted," he told Channel 7.
"But it's all part of it. I'll get my head down and get back in the nets and work really hard and, hopefully, be ready to go for the next opportunity.
"It's the game we're in. If you don't take an opportunity and you're not performing as well as you want to, your position's never safe.
"I missed out a few times with the bat and, unfortunately, wasn't able to take my opportunity. But, as I said, I'll work really hard to make sure that if the opportunity comes round again, I'm definitely ready."
On the Bumrah challenge, he added via News Corp: "I faced some balls and spent a bit of time out there, so that helped my confidence, but I did not get the scores that I wanted. As everyone was saying, it probably does not get much harder."
