Brook hails England attack after crushing win over Black Caps

Captain Harry Brook hailed England’s performance after the tourists bowled New Zealand out for 171 runs to win the second T20I.

Captain Harry Brook hailed England's bowling attack after they tore through New Zealand in the second of the teams' three T20Is in Christchurch.

Phil Salt scored 85 off 56 balls and Brook smashed 78 off just 35, with the pair combining for an explosive 129-run partnership to put England on the front foot on Monday.

England’s total of 236-4 set a new T20I record at Hagley Oval, as they surpassed the previous best of 208 with 10 balls to spare.

New Zealand were eventually bowled out for 171 with two overs remaining, meaning England are 1-0 up in the three-match series after rain forced the opener to be abandoned.

England’s win keeps them on track to claim consecutive T20I series victories in New Zealand and extends their unbeaten run against the Black Caps, which dates back to 2013.

"It's exactly what we've been talking about. We've done well from the start of my captaincy at taking a lot of wickets, so to get 10 was awesome," Brook said.

"Our spinners are extremely experienced. For Daws [Liam Dawson] to bowl four overs in a row, a lot of balls to left-handers with the wind howling... the odds weren't in his favour but he bowled phenomenally.

"There's a lot of balls that get plinked into the outfield. That's another positive move towards taking wickets.

"It felt good. It's always nice to contribute, and to do it alongside Salty, who has been very successful for us in this new era, makes it even better."
