Warriors' Kuminga diagnosed with bone bruise in knee
The disgruntled Warriors player was injured Thursday and the team will give an update on a timeline for a return in the coming days.
Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga has been diagnosed with a bone bruise in his left knee, the team announced Sunday.
An MRI on Friday confirmed the injury, and he'll be re-evaluated in a few days.
Kuminga was injured in Thursday's 123-115 loss to the Dallas Mavericks when he took an awkward step on a drive to the basket with 3:52 remaining in the second quarter.
The 23-year-old was appearing in his second straight game after Warriors coach Steve Kerr opted to sit him in Golden State's previous 16 contests. He had just worked his way back into the rotation as a result of Jimmy Butler's season-ending knee injury.
It has been an eventful week for Kuminga, who had reportedly requested to be traded just days ago, but with Butler's injury, was suddenly in line for a larger role in the offence for a Warriors team trying to make a play-off push.
The disgruntled player had 20 points in 21 minutes off the bench in Tuesday's 145-127 loss to the Toronto Raptors before tallying 10 points in nine minutes before getting hurt Thursday.
Thursday's loss was the second straight for the Warriors (25-21), who are three games behind the first-place Los Angeles Lakers in the Pacific Division.
The NBA trade deadline is February 5, and Kuminga's future with Golden State is uncertain.
