Rockets give Durant two-year, $90million extension
The 15-time All-Star could have become an unrestricted free agent after the 2025-26 season, his first with Houston.
The Houston Rockets and Kevin Durant have agreed to terms on a $90million, two-year contract extension that includes a player option for the 2027-28 season.
Houston acquired the 37-year-old Durant from the Phoenix Suns in the offseason, putting the 15-time All-Star on his fourth team since leaving the Oklahoma City Thunder for the Golden State Warriors prior to the 2016-17 season.
The eighth-leading scorer in NBA history with 30,571 points, Durant was the NBA Finals MVP in each of Golden State’s back-to-back titles in 2017 and 2018 before the Warriors’ three-peat bid ended with a six-game loss to the Toronto Raptors in 2019 after Durant tore his right Achilles in Game 5 of the NBA Finals.
Durant then signed with the Brooklyn Nets a month later but sat out the entire 2019-20 campaign due to the Achilles.
Durant’s run in Brooklyn was plagued by injuries, and the Nets dealt him to Phoenix in February 2023.
Since leaving the Warriors, the four-time Olympic gold medalist has not advanced past the second round of the play-offs.
Houston finished second in the Western Conference last season with a 52-30 record before losing to the Warriors in seven games in the first round of the play-offs.
The Rockets visit the defending champion Thunder in the NBA's first game of the 2025-26 season on Tuesday.
