NBA: Kings rally for key win over Pistons

Monday's two NBA games featured 43 points from Zach LaVine in a Sacramento Kings' win and the Philadelphia 76ers' 12th straight loss.

Zach LaVine poured in a season-high 43 points, DeMar DeRozan added 37 and the Sacramento Kings solidified their chances of hosting a play-in game with Monday's 127-117 victory over the Detroit Pistons.

LaVine had 30 of his points in the second half to rally his team from an 18-point first-half deficit as the Kings recorded their third straight win, which moved them one game ahead of the Dallas Mavericks for ninth place in the Western Conference. The No. 9 seed will host the 10th seed next week in the play-in tournament following the conclusion of the regular season.

The Kings also received a 19-point, 15-rebound, 10-assist triple-double from Domantas Sabonis on a night they dominated the glass behind the star center and backup Jonas Valanciunas, who compiled 10 points and 12 boards off the bench to help Sacramento finish with a 50-37 rebounding advantage.

The scuffling Pistons lost for the fourth time in five games despite Cade Cunningham's 35 points and 19 from Tim Hardaway Jr.

Sacramento trailed 72-62 at half-time but began chipping away in the third quarter, getting within 86-84 with four minutes left in the period behind a 5-0 spurt. The Pistons' lead was four in the final minute of the frame before LaVine scored seven straight points, including a 3-pointer just before the buzzer that snapped a 94-94 tie.

The Kings were able to stay ahead throughout the fourth quarter as LaVine, who finished 8 of 11 from 3-point range, amassed 17 points for the period.

Sacramento put the game away with a 9-0 run, with DeRozan accounting for six of those points, that gave the Kings a 122-112 advantage with 2:17 left to play.

The Kings led 38-37 after one quarter, but Detroit dominated much of the second. The Pistons outscored Sacramento by a 22-6 margin to begin the period, and their lead grew to 18 points later on when Hardaway drained a 3-pointer to make the score 66-48 with 4:35 remaining before half-time.

Heat send 76ers to 12th straight loss

Duncan Robinson delivered 21 points on 7-of-8 shooting off the bench to give the Miami Heat a big lift in a 117-105 win over Philadelphia that marked the injury-riddled 76ers' 12th consecutive loss.

The Heat got back on track behind Robinson's 5-of-6 performance from 3-point range and 20 points from Tyler Herro. Miami, which had lost two straight following a season-high six-game winning streak, also received 19 points and a career-high 17 rebounds from Kel'el Ware as the rookie started in place of an inactive Bam Adebayo (back spasms).

Lonnie Walker IV and Quentin Grimes each netted 29 points for Philadelphia, though neither was enough to prevent the 76ers from achieving their longest losing streak since a 12-game skid from March 12-April 2, 2016.

Adem Bona added 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting along with 11 rebounds for the Sixers, who managed to give Miami all it could handle through three quarters before the Heat pulled away in the fourth.

The teams were tied at 88-88 with 8 1/2 minutes left before the Heat embarked on a 16-3 run to break the game open. Robinson converted a three-point play with 5:48 to go to give Miami a 100-91 advantage, and Herro and Davion Mitchell followed with consecutive baskets to expand the lead to 13 points with 4:25 remaining.

Up 29-28 after the opening period, Miami started the second on a 10-2 run before stretching the margin further later on. The Heat's lead grew to 58-44 with under two minutes left before half-time following an 8-0 spurt, and they went into the break with a 61-53 advantage as Pelle Larsson led the way with 12 first-half points.

The 76ers closed the gap in the third quarter behind Grimes, who poured in 15 points for the period and hit a trio of 3-pointers during a 14-2 surge that briefly put Philadelphia ahead.

Walker's triple capped the run and gave the Sixers a 74-71 edge midway through the quarter, and the game continued to be tight until the Heat began separating in the fourth quarter.
