Mavericks star rookie Flagg out Thursday and will miss Rising Stars game
Cooper Flagg has a left midfoot sprain that will sideline him Thursday and will prevent him from playing in the Rising Stars game on Friday
Dallas Mavericks star teenage rookie Cooper Flagg will miss the final game before the All-Star break and not play in the NBA's Rising Stars game on Friday night because of a left midfoot sprain.
The Mavericks announced Wednesday night that an MRI revealed the injury that occurred in their loss at Phoenix a night earlier, when the 19-year-old had 27 points in 36 minutes. They said further updates will be provided as appropriate.
This is Flagg’s second injury in the past month after he exited a loss to Denver on Jan. 14 after suffering a sprained right ankle in the first half. He also injured the same ankle in a win over the Brooklyn Nets two nights earlier.
Flagg, the No. 1 overall draft pick last summer, started his rookie season slowly and has shown flashes of superstardom recently. He is averaging 20.4 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists in his 49 games with Dallas and was named Western Conference Rookie of the Month in November and December.
Dallas returns from the All-Star break on Feb. 20 at Minnesota.
