Hammon slams ‘out of control’ physicality between Aces and Fever
The Las Vegas Aces levelled their WNBA semi-final series against the Indiana Fever, but Becky Hammon was not impressed with the officiating.
Las Vegas Aces head coach Becky Hammon has slammed the level of physicality allowed by officials in their playoff series against the Indiana Fever, labelling it “out of control”.
The Aces levelled the series at 1-1 after defeating the Fever 90-68 on Tuesday, with WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson registering 25 points, nine rebounds, five steals and two blocks.
Wilson made all four of her shots from the free-throw line, with the Aces attempting 21 shots from the charity stripe to the Fever’s 15.
There were 41 fouls called in total in game two, with 16 in the third quarter alone, after 27 were called in the opening encounter of the best-of-five series.
“I mean, you can bump and grab a wide receiver in the NFL for those first five yards, but you can do it in the WNBA for the whole half-court,” said Hammon.

“You put two hands on somebody like that, it should be an automatic foul. The freedom of movement, there's no freedom. And I'm not saying that we're not fouling, too, I'm not saying that. I'm saying it's out of control.
“Most of my assistants come from the NBA, and they're like, 'This would not fly in the NBA. ... There'd be fights.' We just have very well-mannered women that can get to the next play.”
This also comes after Hammon described the Fever’s first-round matchup against the Atlanta Dream as a “football match”, stating: “some of the hits that I saw in the Atlanta-Indiana game, if I did that to you in the street, I would be arrested.”
Fever guard Lexie Hull, who committed three personal fouls in game two, added: “It feels like a physical game every game.
“It feels like it's been a physical season. I feel like I've been on the ground a little bit more this series so far. We just keep getting back up.”
