A'ja Wilson says it was a "truly special moment" to etch her name in the history books as she became the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 5,000 points.

The Las Vegas Aces earned an 85-59 victory over the Connecticut Sun on Wednesday, with Wilson leading the team with 22 points.

She also had eight rebounds and four assists, with Jackie Young also contributing 20 points to the win.

Wilson is the 28th player to hit the 5,000-point landmark, but achieved it in just 238 games, beating Breanna Stewart's record of 242.

She is also the second-youngest player to achieve the feat at 28 years and 321 days, with only Lauren Jackson (28y 96d) doing so at a younger age (259 games).

"It was a truly special moment," she told reporters.

"It meant a lot to me. It's been a special, special season for us. There's been a lot of ups and downs.

"But when you can hit a milestone like this in a league like this, I can't let it go unnoticed, so I'm grateful, I'm blessed.

"I'm definitely going to cherish this moment because it's been a lot of fun. But obviously, we've got a lot of work to do."

It was a dominant win for Las Vegas, who moved to 7-7 for the season.

Elsewhere in the WNBA on Wednesday, the New York Liberty bounced back from two consecutive defeats to earn an 81-78 victory over the Golden State Valkyries.

Breanna Stewart led the team with a double-double, finishing with 23 points and 10 assists, with Kennedy Burke also adding 20 as the Liberty overturned a first-quarter deficit to edge to a win.

They remain top of the Eastern Conference with an 11-3 record.
