Philadelphia 76ers star centre Joel Embiid says there is a "plan in place" for him to return from his April knee surgery.

When exactly that is, he did not divulge.

Speaking to reporters at the 76ers' media day on Friday, Embiid said he's making progress but does not have a specific timetable for a return.

Embiid appeared in just 19 games last season, with his last one coming in late February. He then had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee in April.

"I want to play. I want to play every single game," the seven-time All-Star said. "I've been pretty unlucky when it comes to that compared to most NBA players."

Since earning NBA MVP honours in the 2022-23 season, Embiid has appeared in just 64 total games.

The two-time scoring champion averaged 23.8 points, 8.2 rebounds and 4.5 assists last season. His scoring average was 10.9 points lower than in 2023-24, and his lowest since 2019-20.

"I've had so many injuries," Embiid said. "The only thing I've always told myself is you can't give up."

Fellow 76ers star Paul George is also recovering from knee surgery, but could be ready for Philadelphia's October 22 season opener against the Boston Celtics.

George, who had left knee surgery in July, averaged 16.2 points, 5.3 boards and 4.3 assists in 41 games in 2024-25 in his first season with the 76ers.

With Embiid and George out for much of the season, Philadelphia sputtered to a 24-58 season after entering the year with championship aspirations.
