Atletico Madrid legend Griezmann to join Orlando City at end of season
Antoine Griezmann will remain with Atletico Madrid until the end of the season, before joining Orlando City in July.
Antoine Griezmann will join MLS outfit Orlando City at the end of the season, bringing the curtain down on his second stint with Atletico Madrid.
Griezmann became Atleti's all-time leading scorer in December 2023 and has 211 goals and 91 assists in 488 appearances for Los Colchoneros.
Griezmann initially joined Atleti from Real Sociedad in 2014 and left for Barcelona in 2019, only to return two years later on a loan deal that eventually became permanent.
The 35-year-old – who helped France win the World Cup in 2018 and retired from international football in 2024 – has been linked with a move to the United States throughout the last few months.
He announced earlier this month that he would stay with Diego Simeone's side for the rest of the season, but he will then depart for Florida.
Griezmann has agreed an initial contract to run until the end of 2027-28, which will be the first season after the MLS calendar changes to align with the European game, with an option to extend for a further year.
"Antoine is a complete footballer – creative, intelligent, clinical – and he is a proven winner on the biggest stages of the game," sporting director Ricardo Moreira told Orlando's website.
"Beyond his talent, he brings leadership, a relentless drive and a championship mentality that will elevate everyone around him. This is a statement signing for our club and ownership group, and we are thrilled to welcome Antoine and his family to Orlando."

Griezmann has scored 13 goals and provided four assists in all competitions this season, in 43 appearances – only 18 of which have been starts.
Only Julian Alvarez (17 goals, nine assists) has provided more goal involvements for Atleti since the end of last year's Club World Cup.
"I am very excited to begin this next chapter of my career with Orlando City," Griezmann said. "From my first conversations with the club, I could feel a strong ambition and a clear vision for the future, and that really spoke to me.
"I look forward to making Orlando my new home, meeting the supporters, feeling the energy at Inter&Co Stadium, and giving everything I have to help the team achieve great things."
Orlando lost 5-0 to Nashville SC on Saturday, their fourth defeat in five games to start the MLS season (one win).
